mead
Mead is an alcoholic beverage fermented from honey and water, with possibility of addition of other ingredients such as spices or herbs or in combination with fruit juices.
Classical mead
Classical mead is made by fermenting honey and water without any other ingrediences. It keeps its original honey flavour and taste.
Type of honey
Blossom honey or nectar comes from the nectar of various flowers.
Production process
This mead is not cooked, however, during its production, the honey was heated above 50 °C for a limited time. It could be heated up to temperatures of 80 °C, when some components of honey may be degraded.
This mead is suitable for heating, but we recommend always keeping the maximum heating temperature to approx. 50-55 ° C. At higher temperatures, the precious components of honey could be damaged. For heating, we recommend sweeter and more pronounced mead, especially those with the addition of spices or herbs, the aroma of which pleasantly emerges when heated. However, you can taste the mead according to your wishes, as well as mulled wine.
Producer Beekeeping Babákov
Beekeeping and mead production in the Hlinsko region
Beekeeping and mead production in Hlinecko.
The owner of the company, Vladimír Saifr, only started beekeeping in middle age, sometime around 2007. At that time, he had worked in a textile company, in a leasing company, in a real estate company, in state administration and local government, and he already needed a significant change in his life. Freedom and freedom is more than a regular salary in an organization.
In order to learn as much as possible about bees, he took a distance learning course in the field of Beekeeping at the Beekeeping School in Nasavrky in the years 2007-2009. Currently, it has around 60 bee colonies, which are expanding every year. The apiaries are located in forests and meadows in the area of the Česko-Moravian Highlands in the vicinity of Hlinsko.
He started producing mead under the brand Medovinka, s.r.o. with his partner Marcel Gregor, but in 2016 he founded the company Včelařství Babákov and embarked on his own path of mead produced exclusively by the cold method. The menu includes new types of mead, of which lavender and propolis are the most popular among our customers at Medovinárná. But they are all good, and I would recommend starting the tasting with the basic Original mead and then the lime mead.
Babakov Beekeeping also produces its own cosmetics from honey.
